Event medical services are the medical team, equipment and ambulances placed at a gathering, so that anyone who is hurt or falls ill is treated on the spot.
For many events, medical cover is not optional. Under the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act, the police categorise an event as high, medium or low risk. That category shapes the medical plan, including whether an ambulance has to be on standby.
Not every event needs an ambulance. The risk assessment shows what yours needs, and we plan the cover around it, with staff and vehicles that meet the emergency medical service rules under the National Health Act.

The Act sets safety and security rules for sports and recreational events, and organisers must plan medical cover to match the event's risk category. The venue's safety officer and the local authority may add their own conditions. We plan the medical side so it fits all three.
Book as soon as you have a date and a venue. Larger events need more planning, because the medical plan often forms part of the approvals the event needs. For a smaller event, call us even if the date is close, and we will tell you honestly what we can staff.
That depends on the risk assessment. We can staff an event with first aiders, basic, intermediate and advanced paramedics, and doctors. A small function might need two first aiders, while a large festival needs paramedics, a doctor and ambulances on standby.
Our team treats the patient on site first. If they need a hospital, a standby ambulance takes them, and the rest of the team stays with the event. Where no ambulance is on standby, our team calls one to the venue and looks after the patient until it arrives.
Yes. Alcohol raises the chance of injuries and medical problems, so events that serve it usually need more staff and sometimes an ambulance on standby. That is why the questionnaire asks about it. Tell us honestly, because it helps us plan cover that works on the day.
Yes. We cover festivals, tournaments and conferences that run over several days, with the staffing planned for each day. Crowd numbers and activities often change from one day to the next, so the quote sets out the cover for each day separately.
No. Ralmed's event, ambulance and clinical services run in Gauteng, served from our Sandton base. If your event is elsewhere, we can still train your own staff or marshals in first aid, because our accredited training runs anywhere in South Africa.
